A. Lane Plauché

The second annual recipient of the Dermot S. McGlinchey Lifetime Acheivement Award, A. Lane Plauché (A&S '42, L '47) truly embodies the characteristics on which the award was founded. Plauché has had enormous career success; he has proven himself a leader both professionally and in volunteer efforts; and through his philanthropy and service, he has exhibited a devotion to Tulane University that is beyond compare.

Raised in Lake Charles, La., Plauché received a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Arts & Sciences at Tulane and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Soon after, he entered Tulane Law School, where he was elected to Order of the Coif, served as civil law editor of Tulane Law Review and graduated second in his class.

In 1947, Plauché joined the Lake Charles law firm Plauché & Plauché, which was co-founded by his father, S.W. Plauché, in 1921. For 50 years, Plauché has practiced insurance defense law in this firm, which is now known as Plauché, Smith & Nieset.

Plauché is a member of a host of professional organizations including the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association (president 1961), the Louisiana State Bar Association (board of governors, 1971-73), the American Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel and the Maritime Law Association of the United States. In addition, Plauché is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American College of Probate Lawyers and the American Bar Foundation.

At Tulane, Plauché is a member and former chair of the President's Council, an active member of the Lake Charles Chapter of the Tulane Alumni Association and a member of the Captain's Club of the Green Wave Club. In the past, Plauché has served as chair of the Law School Council, as a member of the Law School Building Committee and as chair of the national Associate's program.

He was named Tulane's Outstanding Law Alumnus in 1978 and a Distinguidhed Law Graduate in 1986.

Plauché and his wife, the former Althea Livaudais, have three children, all Newcomb and Tulane graduates: Mercedes Plauché Nieset (NC '66), Andrew L. Plauché Jr. (A&S '69, L '72) and Mary Paluché McNulty III (A&S '73, L '76), and four grandchildren, Susan Nieset Hudlow (NC '90) [director of marketing in the Tulane Athletics Department], James R.
