Gerald Louis Andrus
The 1976 Tulane Distinguished Alumnus is Gerald L. Andrus, New Orleans business and civic leader who earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Tulane in 1928. An accomplished executive who currently is a consultant to management of Middle South Utilities, Inc., he served as president and chairman of the board of Middle South and of New Orleans Public Service, Inc. He organized Middle South Services, Inc. and served as its president and chairman. A loyal Tulanian, Andrus is a former vice chairman and current Advisory Member of the Tulane Board of Administrators; he was chairman of the Search Committee that selected Dr. Sheldon Hackney as Tulane's 12th president. A former Homecoming chairman and member of the Tulane Alumni Association Board of Directors, the honoree in 1951-52 served as president of the Alumni Association. Andrus once was president of the Tulane Commerce Club and he received the 1960 "Outstanding Alumnus Award" from the Tulane Association of Business Alumni. A dedicated community leader, Andrus holds membership on several boards and committees and has been a member of several Mardi Gras. While at Tulane, Andrus' activities ranged from manager of the football team to president of the student body.
