Alumni Return From South Africa where they Helped Spread the "Wave of Green"

"Just returned from a fabulous trip to South Africa sponsored by Tulane Alumni Travel, with all the travel arrangements made by AHI.  Everything was first class, only the best hotels, safari lodges, etc.  with the added extravagance of two days on Rovos Rail, the most incredible train experience in the world.  We were accompanied by Charlotte Travieso, Tulane Alumni Director, who made sure that everything worked exactly as planned.  The educational thrust of the trip was Apartheid and the changes brought about since its dissolution.  I visited South Africa 25 years ago, when the "separateness" was in full force and to see the changes in present-day South Africa were a revelation."

The Wave of Green Tree Planting initiative has gone international. While the alumni travelers were in Soweto, an urban area in the city of Johannesburg in Gauteng South Africa, they participated in a tree planting program Alumni Holiday International (AHI) developed 3 years ago. To date they have planted over 20 trees, which are cared for by the property owners. All of the trees are flourishing and the tree that was planted by this Tulane group is being tended to by the landowner Mr. Flower.

"What is so inspiring about this experience is that we get to know the family on whose land we planted the tree. As Tulane groups continue to visit this site they can see how their fellow alumni have made an impact. The Tulane travelers will leave a special legacy in Soweto"
