The Tulane School of Architecture frequently uses New Orleans as a setting for its design studio projects. Over the past century, TSA faculty, staff and students have developed an extensive collection of images of the city. The core of the New Orleans Architecture Database combines the TSA Slide Library's collection of 35mm slides with the Southeastern Architectural Archive's collection of lantern slides. The database also includes images from the Tulane Office of Campus Planning, the Newcomb Archives and the Tulane University Archives. Some of these are unique images of significant buildings, which have been demolished since the slides were taken. The database is intended to serve as a reference and research tool for students and faculty of the Tulane School of Architecture. Outside scholars are welcome to use the site in compliance with "fair use" standards as defined by federal and international law. All images, text, and other materials in this site are protected under United States copyright laws.

This project has been funded primarily through a grant from the Provost's Office of Tulane University and a generous gift from Steve and Abbye Gorin. Special thanks to the participating faculty, Professors Geoffrey Baker, Eugene Cizek, Malcolm Heard, Karen Kingsley, John Klingman and Ellen Weiss. This site is dedicated to Professor Bernard Lemann (1905-2000) who enriched the collection with the breadth of his vision. His photographs of New Orleans - the Irish Channel, a jazz funeral uptown, the 1800 block of Baronne Street, Metairie subdivisions, New Orleans "trash and junk", Decatur Street, Fried Chicken signage and the Levee - are among the special subjects he left us.
