All undergraduate students, faculty and staff are invited to enjoy the Newcomb-Tulane College Friday morning tradition of coffee, Krispy Kreme donuts, and conversation on the porch of Cudd Hall. Every first Friday of the month, the Dean's Coffee also presents live music.
This month's featured performer is Helen Gillet, a renowned cellist, vocalist, songwriter, and improviser, described as “among the most versatile and creative musicians working in the Crescent City.” Gillet uses electromagnetic effects, looping and vocal percussion to explore the wide range of natural sounds drawn out through the acoustic cello.
When she's not playing with over 20 groups in New Orleans or recording with artists like acclaimed singer-songwriter Marianne Faithfull, she enjoys teaching improvisation-based soundtrack, beat box and ukulele classes.
