Conversation over lunch with Dr. Sha-Shonda Porter

Enjoy conversation over lunch on Thursday, October 12th from 11:30-1 in Tulane's Center for Public Service, Alcee Fortier Hall, 1st Floor Conference Room with Dr. Sha-shonda Porter, Director of the Center for Integrative Learning and Teaching Innovation and Associate Dean, World Languages, Cultures, and Communications at Richland College. Dr. Porter is a scholar exploring racial identity development,  self -awareness and self-efficacy, related methods and tools; discussing race in the classroom/ and among groups of people off campus in meaningful ways, from an objective space when we may feel uninformed, rather than not having the conversation at all; moving away from assumptions and stereotypes, and reducing harm; creative writing from an artist perspective, creating characters and text considering racial identity development referencing Dr. Cross’ Nigrescence Racial Identity Theory (NRID), reflecting on and thinking about characters in text, gaining understanding of developmental stages, where those characters are on the spectrum, their actions, their behaviors.
