Faina Lushtak was born and raised in the Soviet Union. A child prodigy, she began her piano and composition studies at the age of six. She graduated from the Stolyarskii Special Music School for Musically Gifted Children and later earned her degrees in piano performance and composition from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
A dedicated teacher, Faina Lushtak is Downman Professor of Music at the Newcomb Music Department of Tulane University, where she heads the piano division and is music director of Tulane’s Concert Piano Series. Ms. Lushtak is on the faculty of the Schlern International Music Festival in Italy and is a Steinway Artist.
Faina Lushtak can be heard on the Centaur label performing works by Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. The recording was praised by Fanfare magazine for its “elastic phrasing and hallucinatory poetry.” In January 2005 Centaur release her recording of Chopin Mazurkas. As a Composer Ms. Lushtak has written music for piano, chamber groups, voice, and violin. Her compositions have been published by Boosey and Hawkes, Ltd. (London), Willis Publishing Company (USA) and in the Soviet Union.
Fanfare Magazine wrote, “vibrant, dynamic readings, delicate expressiveness and a dazzling virtuosity.”
