Conceiving Equity: A Reproductive Politics Summit

Please join Newcomb College Institute for an evening of engagement with reproductive rights/health/justice issues.

6-7pm: Enjoy hors d'ouevres while perusing a gallery of poster presentations by the Reproductive Rights and Reproductive Health Interns and participating in advocacy opportunities provided by Tulane's reproductive rights/health/justice student organizations, including Students United for Reproductive Justice, Med Students for Choice, and Students United for Reproductive Freedom (School of Public Health).

7-8pm: The 6th Annual Roe v. Wade Lecture, “(Re)producing the Maternal Ideal: Abortion Laws and the Romancing of Motherhood,” will be given by Professor J. Shoshanna Ehrlich. Shoshanna Ehrlich is a professor in the Women’s and Gender Studies Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her interdisciplinary scholarship focuses on the sexual and reproductive rights of young women and abortion law.  Her books include:  Who Decides?  The Abortion Rights of MinorsRegulating Desire:  From the Virtuous Maiden to the Purity Princess; a family law textbook, and a forthcoming co-authored monograph entitled For Their Own Protection: Abortion Regret and the Attack on Women’s Reproductive Freedom. Professor Ehrlich also works with a variety of advocacy organizations, including the ACLU of Massachusetts, that are committed to securing the reproductive and sexual rights of young women.
