Daniel Sadownick is an ambidextrous one-man percussion section, who creates wondrous Afro-Cuban, Latin, Haitian, jazz, and soul grooves on congas, bongos, bata, tumbas, quintos, cymbals, cowbells, and an assortment of shakers, claves, and shells from around the world. The Bronx native and member of the Screaming Headless Torsos earned his graduate degree from New York University in Musical Education, and has toured with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, performed with artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Maxwell, Christian McBride, and Dianne Reeves, and appeared on albums by Al Green and Steely Dan.
Jazz at the Rat is a series of live concerts held on selected Thursday evenings at City Diner (a.k.a. Der Rathskeller or "The Rat") at Tulane. Curated by Jesse McBride, the series features performances by jazz legends and rising stars, comprising of both visiting artists and outstanding New Orleans-based musicians, accompanied by students and faculty from Tulane's Jazz Studies program.
