Bike to Work Day is a day to promote commuting by bike as a fun, healthy, safe, and sensible option that everyone can do.
New Orleans' bicycle advocates have set up dozens of meet-up points across the city for bike commuters gather and ride to work together. More than 35 businesses and community spaces were recruited to be hub stations, giving away free snacks, water and coffee and hosting meet-ups. Free bike maps and other resources will be handed out throughout the day.
Bike Easy, a local bike advocacy group, is spearheading the day's events. The KidsWalk Coalition, a group led by the Tulane Prevention Research Center, is also supporting Bike to Work Day.
To kick off Bike to Work Day, there will be a morning meet-up and news conference from 8 to 10 a.m. at Duncan Plaza across from New Orleans City Hall, 1300 Perdido St. Other meet-ups will happen throughout the city. After work, bikers can celebrate with fellow commuters from 5 to 8 p.m. at The American Sector restaurant, 945 Magazine St.
