Author and Abolitionist: A Conversation with Fox Rich

featuring Fox Rich

Date: Tuesday, December 12, 2017
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Building: Rogers Memorial Chapel
Location: uptown campus

The New Orleans Center for the Gulf South welcomes Fox Rich to Tulane University. Rich is a Shreveport native, speaker, business owner, and author of The One That Got Away: A True Story of Personal Transformation. Facing 297 years in prison for her part in a botched robbery, she emerged from incarceration with a sense of purpose and mission: to restore her family and break the cycle of incarceration in Louisiana. Known across the country as, "the realist speaker of the 21st century," Fox Rich is a formerly incarcerated woman, prisoner's wife, mother of six sons, and matriarch of the Rich family as they have endured 19 years of incarceration-together. She speaks both nationally and abroad on subjects ranging from "love" to "politics". Her messages are filled with consciousness, courage, and conviction--asking her audience to understand how mass incarceration is akin to slavery and, like slavery, must be abolished.

Rich will read excerpts from her book and discuss the criminal justice system and its effects on the family.
