The lecture will consist of images of Jessica's art work and the theories, concepts and experiences that compel my artistic vision. It will include: perfection and figurative art, religious art from an outsider's perspective, concepts of the "Other" and Freudian theories of the Uncanny.
Growing up in an urban commune in 1970s New Orleans, Jessica was exposed to unconventional world views from a very early age. From her elementary school years at the countercultural Free School through her graduate studies at the University of New Orleans, she has focused on studying world ideologies and creatively incorporating them into her art. Her artistic curiosity has led her to travel to places as diverse as Nicaragua, Indonesia, and central India.
