Saxophonist Chelsea Baratz is a young band leader whose music follows in the footsteps of 1960’s soul jazz and the hard bop roots of her hometown of Pittsburgh. She's performed with artists such as The Roots, Soulive, Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, DJ Logic, and Branford Marsalis, to name a few. She's also a current member of the Maurice Brown Effect.
Jazz at the Rat is a series of live concerts held on selected Thursday evenings at Der Rathskeller (a.k.a. "The Rat") at Tulane. Curated by Jesse McBride, the series features performances by jazz legends and rising stars, comprising of both visiting artists and outstanding New Orleans-based musicians, accompanied by students and faculty from Tulane's Jazz Studies program.
Free and open to the public. This semester's "Women in Jazz" series is presented by the Lagniappe Series of the Newcomb-Tulane College Office of Cocurricular Programs and by the Newcomb College Institute.
