Tulane has a rich history of outreach in New Orleans. The modern-day
University grew out of a medical school founded to seek the cause
of yellow fever in the mid-19 th century.
On what is literally a daily basis, Tulane faculty members, staff
and students are helping improve the quality of life in New Orleans
and Louisiana. This sampling of outreach and service activities
across the uptown and down Tulane campuses is an attempt to illustrate
Tulane's commitment to the health and well-being not only of its
students, but to the City of New Orleans and State of Louisiana
as well.
In its 160-year commitment to education, Tulane has developed itself
as a good citizen that provides the spark of creativity and knowledge
that attracts and nurtures intellectual talent while directing its
resources to the needs of the community. Tulane's outreach and community
service activities is only a small measure of what it means for
Tulane to "live" in the community that is New Orleans.
