Independent Study & Honor Thesis Petition Form

Please answer all of the following questions.  Petitions will be reviewed each Fall and Spring semester.  All petitions received between May and August will be held until the first Petitions Committee meeting in September.

Deadlines to submit petitions:

  • April 15th to get reviewed by the end of the Spring semester
  • November 15th to get reviewed by the end of the Fall semester

(e.g., ENLS 4920)

Reminder: Your faculty advisor must submit a letter of recommendation/acknowledgment for your independent study/honors thesis.

Answers may be (and should be) longer that the visible space provided.

How is this activity a public service and how will it benefit the community organization? What is the primary goal of the student performing the activity? What is the primary goal of the organization sponsoring the activity? How will you develop a partnership with your selected community agency, that is, how will you be directly engaged at the organization?

What final project/report will you prepare and how will it be shared with the community partner/organization (e.g., written report; public presentation; report readable by a lay audience)? Please provide a detailed dissemination plan for your research/ project/report.
