Masters of Disaster Alumni Speaker Series
Webinars will offer students the opportunity to hear directly from DRLA alumni as they speak on their careers, tips for gaining employment post-graduation, and how competencies learned at the DRLA are applied in the field. The series will promote student-alumni mentoring and networking in a diverse array of prospective career paths.

Jen Hardin, Director of Enterprise Risk Management, International Relief and Development/Blumont - January 27, 2017
DRLA Alumna Jen Hardin works as Director of Enterprise Risk Management for International Relief and Development (IRD)/Blumont, responsible for supporting 17 tactical security teams within 9 countries in the Middle East, Africa, and South America. Her duties include: conducting field site security risk assessments, developing and delivering training curricula to 1,800+ field and HQ staff on enterprise risk and security management, and analyzing the likelihood and impact of organizational threats in order to advise senior leadership on mitigative actions. Due to operating in conflict and active combat zones, much of Ms. Hardin's focus is on safety and security planning for personnel and guard force staffing, travel and transport, hardline perimeter and facility enhancement, compound access point systems, as well as contingency planning for crisis-level incidents. Ms. Hardin is a NAEMT Tactical Casualty Combat Care medic, IAEM Associate Emergency Manager and Hostile Environment Anti-Terrorism (HEAT) certified security professional.

Professor Rob Verchick, DRLA Senior Fellow and Academic Lead of the Environment & Infrastructure Pillar - January 31, 2017
Professor Verchick holds the Gauthier-St. Martin Eminent Scholar Chair in Environmental Law at Loyola University and is an expert in climate change law, disaster law, and environmental regulation. In 2009 and 2010, he served in the Obama administration as Deputy Associate Administrator for Policy at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In that role he helped develop climate adaptation policy for the EPA and served on President Obama's Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force. In the fall of 2012, he researched climate adaptation policies in India as a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Policy Research in New Delhi, supported by a Fulbright Award. His work has appeared in many venues, including the California Law Review, the Southern California Law Review, and the environmental law journals at Harvard, Stanford, and Berkeley. He is an author of three books, including the award-winning, Facing Catastrophe: Environmental Action for a Post-Katrina World (Harvard University Press 2010).
