Office of Institutional Equity
The Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) is responsible for issues pertaining to:
Affirmative Action Plan - Pursuant to regulations from the U.S. Department of Labor, OIE develops Tulane's Affirmative Action plans for women, minorities, veterans and individuals with disabilities. Tulane encourages good faith efforts to achieve its goals and address underutilization where it exists.
Americans with Disabilities Act Coordination - Partnering with Tulane's Goldman Office of Disabilities Services and the Office of General Counsel, and WFMO, OIE coordinates the university's programs and policies relating to compliance and the promotion of opportunities for qualified persons with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (Pub. L. No. 101-336), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Pub. L. No. 93-112, § 504, as amended), and state and local requirements regarding individuals with disabilities.
Community Outreach - The outreach mission of OIE includes supporting Tulane's Public Service initiatives including the Center for Public Service (CPS). OIE staff contributes annually to Tulane's community day of service. In addition, members of OIE's staff are involved with and support the following: New Orleans Charter Schools through board membership, programs that assist disadvantaged children in New Orleans, Youth Leadership Programs, Pipeline Programs, the Louisiana Bar Associations Outreach and Diversity section, and the Urban League of Greater New Orleans.
Complaints and Grievances - In accordance with Tulane's Equal Opportunity and Anti-Discrimination Policies and Procedures, OIE investigates allegations of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. The process involves an objective assessment of the concerns, followed by findings and recommendations as required. OIE is also responsible for providing institutional responses to external complaints and audits by governmental agencies.
Diversity and Inclusive Excellence - OIE partners with Tulane's community to continue to build a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, students, and staff. Diversity and Inclusive Excellence focuses specifically on fostering greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and accountability at every level of university life. The central premise at Tulane is to intentionally integrate diversity efforts into the core aspects of the institution to maximize success as a Carnegie-designated Research University.
Educational Opportunities, Building Conversations, and Skills Building - Working in conjunction with many university partners including, WFMO, the Office of Risk Management, Student Affairs, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and theWELL, OIE provides tailored educational services to the units. OIE provides educational seminars and workshops focusing on workplace diversity, minimizing implicit bias in the search and hiring process, applying equal opportunity principles and practices in the search process, identifying and preventing sexual harassment in the workplace, compliance with Title IX, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, SAFE Zone Ally Training, and a variety of diversity topics.
Title IX Coordinator - The Title IX coordinator's responsibilities are critical to the development, implementation, and monitoring of meaningful efforts to comply with Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and 34 C.F.R. Part 106. In partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Student Conduct and the Office of General Counsel the Title IX Coordinator monitors University policies and procedures in relation to Title IX developments; implementation of grievance procedures, including notification, investigation, and disposition of complaints; and, provision of educational materials and training as required per regulations.
