Facilities Services Building
Monday–Friday, 6 a.m.–4 p.m.
The Life Safety Shop purchases and maintains fire extinguishers and cabinets, hoses, and alarm system devices for academic buildings. The shop also provides installation, inspection, and maintenance services for this equipment. Funding of these services in non-academic areas is the responsibility of the department requesting service.
Fire extinguisher and life safety training is available upon request. For more information, see the Office of Environmental Health and Safety Policy and Procedures Manual or the online safety training materials.
Activated fire alarms will be silenced by Life Safety or Power Plant personnel only after the building has been thoroughly checked for fire and "all-clear instructions" are issued by the competent authority. Normally, the building inspection will be conducted by the Department of Public Safety.
Emergency call-outs such as fire alarms are normally not billable. False alarms are billable to the person responsible.
