If you are applying for federal financial aid we want to be sure that your aid application process goes smoothly, and so to that end we ask for you to please be sure to follow these steps:
1. Complete the 2017-2018 FAFSA on-line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ using Tulane's federal school code: 002029.
2. Navigate to Tulane's secure "Gibson" portal at https://gibson.tulane.edu/tulane/jsp/login.html If you have not been issued a Tulane e-mail account (example: email@example.com), then click on the link titled "Forgot your username or password?". You will be prompted to enter the SOPHAS application e-mail address and click "submit". If your entry matches the personal e-mail address Tulane has on record, then Tulane will promptly e-mail your Tulane ID and PIN to be used for accessing the Gibson portal. If you do not receive a prompt e-mail with this information, then you should contact your admissions office (firstname.lastname@example.org) to confirm the personal e-mail address listed on your Tulane record.
3. Log-in to Tulane's Gibson portal using your Tulane ID and PIN. Once you log-in, if your Social Security Number (SSN) is not on record at Tulane then you will receive an immediate prompt asking you to securely and safely provide this information to Tulane. Why does Tulane seek your SSN? In order to expedite the delivery of your financial aid information. Since you are required to list your SSN on the FAFSA, this is the key data element that allows Tulane to efficiently match and receive your FAFSA application data from the U.S. Department of Education. Once you have completed the FAFSA and provided Tulane with your SSN, then we should be able to import your FAFSA data and process your aid.
NOTE: IF UPON LOG-IN TO GIBSON, YOU ARE NOT PROMPTED TO PROVIDE YOUR SSN, THEN TULANE ALREADY HAS THAT DATA.
4. Return to the secure Gibson website to log-in and check on the status of your financial aid application and ultimately view your award details. Once your financial aid package is completed you are able adjust your aid, to "accept" or "decline" various aid items offered.
For applicants who will matriculate in fall 2017 and who have completed the aforementioned steps, the Tulane University Financial Aid Office will begin processing aid for incoming graduate and professional students in late February 2017. For applicants who apply for aid after February 2017, we expect to have aid notifications e-mailed within 15 business days of our receipt of all necessary financial aid documents.
