Coursework in the Newcomb Art Department provides students with a thorough understanding of the study and creation of visual art.

History of Art coursework assists students in developing a comprehensive understanding of the major works and monuments of Western art and architectural history.  Students are able to contextualize visual material within historical, geographic, and cultural contexts.  Students also perform research to analyze and interpret material using art historical techniques and critical methods.

Studio Art coursework assists students in developing skill and technical facility in ceramics, digital arts, glass, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture to create original works of art.  Students are taught fundamental visual and design principles to inform and articulate knowledge of their own practice and contextualize the work of other artists.
