Zukofsky Search Form

The Correspondence of Louis Zukofsky: A Finding Aid

This finding aid covers correspondence to and from Louis Zukofsky.  At present it is limited to correspondence (1155 items) between Zukofsky and three poets:  T. S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, and William Carlos Williams.  More names will be added to the finding aid as time permits.  The finding aid indicates the date of each letter, its location, whether it is published (and if so where), the author, and the first five words of the communication.  One can search the finding aid using various combinations of the data.  In the case of the letters from Eliot, I do not provide the first five words; my request to Faber and Faber for permission to do so was not answered.  Where the date of the letter is uncertain, an estimated date is given. In a few cases, where pages of a single letter are divided between two libraries, both libraries are listed as holding the letter.  The abbreviations for the locations are:

Buffalo: Poetry Collection, State University of New York at Buffalo

HRC:  The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, University of Texas at Austin

Lilly:  Lilly Library, Indiana University

McKeldin:  McKeldin Library, University of Maryland

U. of Victoria:  Special Collections, McPherson Library, University of Victoria, Victoria, British Columbia

Yale:  The Beinecke Library, Yale University

Pvt:  Privately owned (in the case of T. S. Eliot, Zukofsky’s letters are owned by Valerie Eliot.)

The abbreviations for publications are:

EP/LZ:  Selected Letters of Ezra Pound and Louis Zukofsky (1987)

WCW/LZ:  The Correspondence of William Carlos Williams and Louis Zukofsky (2003)

Additions and corrections to the finding aid will be welcomed; they should be sent to Barry Ahearn at ahearn@tulane.edu.
