Jennifer Heil

Jenny Heil received her doctorate in English from Emory University with a specialty in colonial and nineteenth-century American literatures. She has received awards for her teaching as well as her research and writing--including grants from the American Philosophical Society, the Library Company of Philadelphia, the University of Virginia and the Best Essay prize from the Society of Early Americanists for a version of "Imperial Pedagogy: Susanna Rowson's Columbus for Young Ladies," which was published in _Early American Literature_. Among her current interests are contemplative and service-oriented teaching and learning methods that aim to engage students concerning their values and how these relate to the meaning and purpose of their lives.
