Political Thought, Democratic Theory, Feminist and Gender Studies
Menaka Philips joined the faculty of Tulane in 2013. Her research and teaching focuses on Political Theory, with concentrations in Western political thought, democratic theory, feminist and gender studies. Her current research interests include an examination of JS Mill's and Karl Marx’s writings on imperialism; a study of feminist receptions of Harriet Taylor Mill; and a book manuscript provisionally titled A Crisis of Certainty, which examines the interpretive practices surrounding scholarly investigations of liberalism. In addition to the Department of Political Science, Professor Philips holds an appointment in the Gender and Sexuality Studies Program where she regularly teaches introductory courses on gender, and advanced feminist theory.
