We are excited to announce these summer opportunities sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts.  Each program provides our students with unmatched educational and career possibilities.



Contemporary Hollywood Film Industry

An intensive five-week introduction to the Hollywood film industry viewed through the lens of industry practices. After three weeks of class on the Tulane campus, students will fly to Los Angeles and meet with film industry professionals including writers, directors, producers, agents, and studio heads. Students will then return to New Orleans to integrate theory and practice in a final week of class. Upon completion of the program, students will earn 6 credits.

  • Pre-req: Basic understanding of film history, film analysis and/or basic competencies in digital production

Summer Minor Program in U.S. Public Policy

A six-week summer program will give students a foundation for graduate school in public policy or a career in government and politics at the local, state or national level. Students will complete relevant coursework and participate in service learning that together will provide them with tools in the analysis of policy, knowledge in substantive policy areas, and experience in local government. Students completing the minor will fulfill one of Tulane’s service learning graduation requirements.

Environmental Studies Summer Program

A four-week summer program with two integrated courses and plenty of hands-on learning opportunities. While enjoying a unique summer experience in New Orleans, students enrolled in this program will receive 6 credit hours at the 4000 level. The courses fulfill the tier two service learning requirement, the EVST capstone requirement, and two EVST distribution or elective requirements.

Language Revitalization: the case of Tunica, Louisiana's sleeping language

This two-week service learning summer course addresses the processes of language death, as well as methods and initiatives for language revitalization. Students will learn effective second language teaching methods and elementary Tunica. They will then apply what they have learned, serving as teaching assistants during the tribe's Language Summer Camp. The Tunica tribe will host the course in Marksville for the week of the Summer Camp.

Mandel-Palagye Program for Middle East Peace

A five-week summer program giving fifteen Tulane students an immersion in the dynamics of the Arab-Israeli conflict through classroom study and field experience in Israel.

Shakespeare: from Page to Performance

In conjunction with the New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, this 5-week study of Shakespeare's work provides students with a unique experience. Team taught by Dr. Scott Oldenburg (English) and Chaney Tullos (Theatre), the program will allow students to explore Shakespeare’s classics through both text analysis and performance. Students also have a behind-the-scenes look at the rehearsal process as they observe the Shakespeare Festival, a professional company, in its 25th season!
