Educating undergraduate women for leadership in the 21st century.

NAA Mission Statement

The NAA's mission is to strengthen personal, collegiate and professional connections among its members. The Association honors the legacy of the H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College by supporting undergraduate women's education at the Newcomb College Institute and Tulane University.

Brief History

Josephine Louise Newcomb founded the H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College in 1886 in memory of her only daughter, Sophie. Her gift to the Tulane University Board of Administrators created the first degree-granting college for women with a university in America. Under the Renewal Plan developed in response to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the levee failures, the university’s undergraduate colleges merged to become Newcomb-Tulane College, enrolling both men and women undergraduates. Read more about the history here.

The Newcomb Alumnae Association is the women's undergraduate alumnae association at Tulane University. Founded in 1910 as the Alumnae Association of Newcomb College, the NAA is affiliated with the Newcomb College Institute and offers programing and services to Newcomb College graduates and all undergraduate Tulane alumnae.
