Screening Women in the Crescent City
Grace Baker

As part of the MediaNOLA campaign to raise awareness about film history in New Orleans during the 1910's, the intern is designing a flash videogame. The final product will be a puzzle/rpg that lets the player experience New Orleans during the 1910's. It is set to be published online in Summer 2012.

An Interactive Tour of the Newcomb College Broadway Campus
Lauren Dean

Lauren worked with the Newcomb Archives to build an interactive website exhibit and mobile walking tour of Newcomb College as part of the New Orleans Historical website that was developed through a partnership with UNO and MediaNOLA.  She learned how to use the archives to gather images and text and synthesize these materials into a tour of the Newcomb Washington and Broadway campuses, as well as a tour of the history of Newcomb Pottery.  By utilizing Omeka and CurateScape offered by, Lauren learned how to integrate each individual item into a cohesive mobile tour that is available as part of the New Orleans Historical app for Android and iPhone smartphones.

Creative Women Rising from the Gulf South
Ethan Gordan

Ethan worked with the Music Rising initiative, which is an ongoing project that hopes to examine and document the history and current initiatives of music education in New Orleans.  Since music is such an integral part of the culture of the city, it is important to document how music is taught and evolves here.  Ethan edited existing videos into a form that could be used online and in digital archives.  He also filmed related events and assisted other Collat Interns with film production and editing.

Classroom Engagement Video Production
Nicole Kuaea

Nicole worked with six Teaching Fellows in the Center for Engaged Learning and Teaching to develop video content for the Classroom Engagement portion of the CELT website.  This involved assisting the Teaching Fellows as they produced a final video project on some aspect of teaching and engagement, assisting with the video production and editing of these projects, and making them available on the Classroom Engagement webpage.


The Newcomb Scholars and Gender & Judging Blogs
Emily Lazaroff

Emily continued working with Sally J. Kenney on a blog for the Gender and Judging group. Additionally, she worked with the Newcomb Scholars to design a new blog to showcase their research, New Orleans' experiences and study abroad travel.

Gender and the Material Culture of Archives
Robin Taylor

Robin worked with the Newcomb Archives to create a blog that would foster a collaborative discussion about the gendering of memory keeping.  By displaying Susan Tucker's research, the blog presented statistics of memory-keeping professions such as librarians, historians, archivists, genealogists, and museum workers in various countries.  The site also featured two family stories that have survived hundreds of years through various ways.  The blog will continue to grow as scholars contribute their own statistics, stories and collections in order to participate in a discussion via the blog about the ways in which a family or an individual's story survives.
