Study: Women are healthier, but losing financial ground in N.O. post-Katrina recovery
Without question, things are different for every New Orleanian since the devastation following Hurricane Katrina almost eleven years ago. Tulane Political Scientist Mirya Holman’s new study, funded by Newcomb College Institute, focuses on how the city’s women have fared in the past decade. In The Status of Women in New Orleans since Katrina, Holman uses data from a variety of local, state, and national sources to draw an image of a city that struggles with challenges drawn along lines of gender and race.
