<h2 class="nci-h2-featured"> Deb Margolin is the 13th Zale-Kimmerling Writer-In-Residence (1997)
Deb Margolin is a playwright, performance artist and founding member of the Split Britches Lesbian Feminist Theater Company. She has written eight solo performance pieces and a number of plays. She has toured the United States performing her work, which is mostly auto-biographical, humorous, and often deals with the subject of language.
Margolin helped found the 3-woman touring repertory company called Split Britches in 1980, and was a writer, actor and collaborator on its several original pieces, which have been performed throughout Europe and the United States. The Company won a Villager Award for Excellence in Theatre in 1982 and an OBIE Award in 1986. Split Britches: Lesbian Performance/Feminist Practice, an anthology of Split Britches plays edited by Sue Ellen Case was published in 1996 by Routledge Press.
A selected anthology of Ms. Margolin's performance texts, entitled Of All the Nerve: Deb Margolin Solo, edited and with commentaries by Lynda Hart, was published in 1999.
Margolin has received commissions from the Jewish Museum of New York, the Joseph Papp Public Theater, the Actor's Theater of Louisville, and several other theaters. She has lectured at many universities throughout the United States and done residencies at several universities including the University of Hawaii, NYU, and of course served as Zale Writer-in-Residence at Tulane's Newcomb College in 1997. Her television credits include segments for HBO Downtown and Comedy Central.
Deb Margolin currently teaches at Yale University in the undergraduate Theater Studies Programs. She is also a member of the New Dramatists, a non profit organization dedicated to the development of New American Playwrights.
