  • The school is often referred to as Tulane SPHTM, an initialism of the school name.

History and Reputation

  • Founded in 1912. The oldest school of public health in the U.S.
  • The only American combined school of public health and tropical medicine
  • The first - and for a long time the only - U.S.-based school of tropical medicine
  • The school's founding dean was Creighton Wellman
  • The first female dean at a school of public health was Grace Goldsmith, who became dean of SPHTM in 1967
