Personal Statement:

My research focus is on maternal and child health in low income countries, with special emphasis on behavioral and social aspects of maternal and newborn care in the community setting and care seeking for illness. I also have a strong interest in nutrition, specifically community based nutrition and behavioral approaches to improving maternal nutrition, breastfeeding, and infant and young child feeding. Alongside that, I have worked on reproductive health issues, particularly related to women's reproductive and sexual health and access to care. My primary methodological focus is qualitative and I have experience in low income countries (Cambodia, Ghana, Ethiopia) and in the United States. I'm actively involved in large research studies, including a cluster randomized trial in Cambodia on newborn care and programmatic research in Ethiopia on child nutrition, as well as US based research on breastfeeding and lactation support.
