Personal Statement:

Dr. Kendall is former Acting Chair of the Department of International Health and Community Health. He was Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health where he founded the Center for International Community-Based Health Research. Dr. Kendall is a Fulbright Senior Fellow, CNPq Senior Researcher, a member of the Panel on Arresting AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, and in the Role of Intermittant Preventive Treatment for Malaria in Infants of the National Academy of Sciences. He served on the Governing Council of the American Public Health Association. Dr. Kendall has extensive international experience, having worked in more than forty countries, and been awarded more than $70 million in research grants.

In 2013, he was awarded a Science without Frontiers award from the Brazilian government. The award funds Brazilian scholars to train at Tulane. Dr. Kendall's research interests in collaboration with the Federal University of Ceara include work on a range of stigmatized diseases, including HIV and Leprosy, and recent work with female prisoners.
