Personal Statement:

I am an Assistant Professor in the Maternal and Child Health section. I teach a masters-level course in Adolescent Health (GCHB 6470) and a doctoral-level course in Social Determinants of Health (GCHB 8750). I have background and experience in providing direct counseling services to youths in hospitals and community settings, conducting health services research, analyzing large secondary datasets, and conducting community-based qualitative research with youth. My areas of expertise are adolescent and young adult (AYA) development, AYA substance use, AYA partner violence, AYA sexual behavior, and social epidemiology. Current projects include a quantitative analysis of PSID data to investigate contextual influences on developmental trajectories of binge alcohol use in the transition to young adulthood; a qualitative project examining the reasons for heroin use initiation among New Orleans youth; and an RCT of an online teen pregnancy prevention program targeted to 18-19 year old African American young women in New Orleans.
