Personal Statement:

My interests include cardiovascular disease epidemiology, specifically risk factors for disease such as physical inactivity, obesity, anger, hostility and cognitive function. Before the hurricane, I was working on a project doing cognitive function screenings in the Bogalusa Heart Study population. I hope to continue with that this year. I am also interested in environmental determinants of health including aspects of our surrounding environment that contribute to inactivity and obesity. I am currently working on projects investigating how parks, playgrounds and neighborhood environments influence physical activity. Additionally, I am working to develop a tool that clinicians can use to help assess physical activity levels of their patients. As an instructor of several courses in the department, I am also interested in epidemiologic methods, survey research methods and ethics of epidemiology.
