Air Force Public Health Officer
The United States Air Force offers a number of health care jobs, mainly clinical, but some in public health. The website is not that easy to use, but does provide some good information about the jobs offered.

America's Job Bank
Users are required to register to use this site. Registration is free for job seekers. Site is difficult to navigate and has limited resources for those interested in public health.

The nation's premiere public health organization has made it easy to learn about career opportunities and training options through a neatly organized web site. Job seekers will find this information easy to use, although the application process can be complex and can take several months to complete. Patience is advised.

CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service
EIS is the country's critical epidemiology training service, combating the causes of major epidemics.The Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) is a unique two-year, post-graduate program of service and on-the-job training for health professionals interested in the practice of epidemiology.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, CMS runs the two largest Federal health care programs - Medicare and Medicaid.  This site discusses fully the career opportunities and job openings for CMS.

Center for Mental Health Services
The Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) is the Federal agency within the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that leads national efforts to improve prevention and mental health treatment services for all Americans.

Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service
Gives a solid overview and history as to each of the various agencies of the U.S. Public Health Service. Describes professional and student opportunities for employment by reviewing minimum qualifications. After reviewing these qualifications to determine whether you meet them, you are invited to contact various agencies via email for more specific information and vacancy announcements.

Congressional Research Service

Department of Health and Human Services
DHHS is the principle agency for protecting the health of Americans and provides essential human services. This site allows users to register and search DHHS job listings. It also provides links to internships, fellowship and summer programs in DHHS agencies. Like many government sites it isn't really pretty to look at, but the content is extremely valuable if you are seeking employment in a federal government agency. Be forewarned that some of the sites being linked to are not as intuitively easy to use as some other sites on the web.

Office of Rural Health Policy
The Office is charged with informing and advising the Department of Health and Human Services on matters affecting rural hospitals and health care, co-ordinating activities within the department that relate to rural health care, and maintaining a national information clearinghouse.

Environmental Protection Agency
EPA is a federal agency that provides leadership for the nation's environmental science, research, education and assessment effort, makes sound regulatory and program decisions, and carries out effective programs and policies to improve the global environment.   Jobs, internships and fellowships can be found on this site.

FEMA Center for Domestic Preparedness
Train at the nation's premier all-hazards training center! FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP), located in Anniston, Alabama, is the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS)'s only federally chartered Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) training center.

Food and Drug Administration
An agency of the Department of Health and Human Services, the FDA protects consumers and promotes public health by regulating food and drug products in accordance with US laws. This site has information about the types of careers it offers and a searchable archive of jobs.

Georgia State Merit System
For those of you not familiar with the State Merit System of Georgia, it is the agency which hires for all state positions. This web site features job opportunities and online application forms. It is broken into two main sections, "continuous recruitment" and "special recruitment." The continuous recruitment section features many listings in health services and social services which may be of interest to public health professionals. The special recruitment section is updated with current vacancies every Friday. An excellent site for those seeking employment in Georgia.

Health Resources and Services Administration
This Department of Health and Human Services agency has as its mission to improve and expand access to quality health care for all. The job search site lists jobs currently available to the general public.

Indian Health Service
IHS is an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives.  The site is very easy to use through graphic presentations.  While health professional jobs are divided into easy to understand categories, the descriptions of the jobs are minimal.

Louisiana Primary Care Association
The Louisiana Primary Care Association’s Community HealthCorps Program was recently awarded funding from the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living to support tobacco prevention and control efforts in East Baton Rouge parish. Through this partnership, LPCA will work with clients at the BREC Senior Center to host the “Breathe Easy: Health and Wellness Series” where local healthcare providers will facilitate discussions about various health topics; specifically, those exacerbated by tobacco usage. LPCA will also motivate senior citizens participating in this project in activities facilitated by the Louisiana Cancer Control Partnership.

Medical Reserve Corps
Serves citizens and communities throughout the US by establishing teams of local volunteers to strengthen public health infrastructure and improve emergency preparedness

National Institutes of Health
One of 8 health agencies of the Public Health Service and comprised of 25 separate institutes and centers.  Its goal is to acquire new knowledge to help prevent, detect, diagnose and treat disease and disability through research.  The site is easy to explore and also lists training and internship opportunities.

Crisis Corps
This program is open to Returned Peace Corps Volunteers seeking short-term employment. Assignments are in a Peace Corps country and usually are 3-6 months in duration and CCVs receive the same benefits as PCVs.

Public Health Prevention Service (PHPS)
A unique three year on-the-job national training program offered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is an extremely strong program for recent MPH graduates looking to get direct public health experience at both national and the state/local health agency levels. The site itself is one of the better designed of its type, with information presented in a clear, easy-to-understand format and a Q & A. Excellent site and an outstanding program!

SAMHSA is the federal agency charged with improving the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitative services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illnesses.

Lists internships (the extended type for those who have completed at least a bachelor's degree) and job vacancies. Describes programs and openings in a comprehensive way. Some good opportunities here for recent graduates.

USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service
