Mardi Gras (French for "Fat Tuesday") in New Orleans is unlike any other celebration you will experience. During the two weeks prior to Mardi Gras day, parades roll nightly. Riding elaborate floats designed to follow a theme for that year, krewe members toss "throws" to the crowds lining the streets, including beads, trinkets, stuffed animals and plastic cups. Some krewes toss highly coveted throws like painted coconuts and high heeled shoes. But be careful when going for these throws – people can get crazy over a coconut.
