Neurosurgery Clerkship:  Tulane Medical Center



This one month selective will allow interested students to be assigned to the faculty staff neurosurgeons at Tulane Medical Center Hospital.  This rotation exposes the student to the broad-spectrum of neurosurgical diseases and procedures encountered in the tertiary referral center setting. The student will be under the direct supervision of the staff physicians, and will be Neurosurgery involved in the initial evaluation of the Neurosurgery patient, diagnostic workup, surgery, and post-operative care of hospital patients.  Attendance is required at weekly conferences and the monthly citywide Neurosurgical Complications Conference.  The rotation is for one month and is limited to one student.  No examination is required for accreditation. Students will take call with the assigned residents every third to fourth night.  At the end of the rotation, the student is required to present a neurosurgical topic (a mini Grand Rounds) at the Friday morning Clinical Conference.
