Inpatient Clerkships

Tulane Hospital for Children (Downtown)

NOTE: These courses may be taken for either Core or Selective credit.
(Course Code: MDPD SUB TUL)

Students are given all the duties and responsibilities of a "first year house officer" in the care of children and adolescents. They are assigned patients in rotation with the Pediatric house officers for workup, and are expected to participate in the management of the patients while in the hospital under the supervision of the senior resident and faculty. Work rounds are made daily and attending rounds are made at least 4 times per week. Specialty rounds by consultants are made as indicated for individual patients. Students are expected to attend the regular house officer conferences, which occur five days weekly. Night call in the hospital is required every fourth night. No final exam.

NICU and Nurseries (Lakeside Hospital)

(Course Code: MDPD SUB TUN)

Students are assigned infants in the high risk nursery under the supervision of the residents and attending staff. They are expected to take calls along with the house staff, and to assist in all procedures, including resuscitation of the newborn in the delivery room. Students are expected to attend all of the house officer conferences (5) each week. Night call is required every fourth night. No final exam.
