Electives - Department of Psychiatry

Not Offered Fall 2017

Principles of Osteopathy

This elective will give students exposure to basic principles and techniques in osteopathic medicine. The goal is to broaden the education of Tulane students and to give them a similar hands-on experience in physical manipulation that many of their colleagues at osteopathic medical schools receive throughout their medical training.

It will consist of 3 classroom-style presentations and 3 hands-on workshops taught by doctors of Osteopathic Medicine. The workshops will include demonstrations and provide the opportunity for students to practice the examination and manual treatment techniques they have learned. We will be using exam tables and working in pairs to teach some of the basic clinical skills of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

The presentations will be open to all students, but attendance at 5 out of 6 sessions is required to obtain elective credit.

Relevant articles and Powerpoint presentations will be available through MyTulane.
