Giving to the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Why Give?

The reasons people give are as numerous and diverse as the donors themselves, but every gift – whether large or small, helps secure the promise and the mission of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Whether it's one inspired moment or a series of experiences culminating in the desire to give back to our Department, one thing is certain: your generosity is a measure of our success in the areas of modern biomedical research, the highest levels of education in medicine and science, and continuing intellectual advancements of our students and faculty.

Where to Give?

You can support what matters most to YOU. You can designate your gift to any area within the Department—from academic pursuits of students within the Department to capital investment, the choice is yours!

When making an unrestricted gift, you allow us to use your contribution to support the Department's areas of greatest need. Unrestricted funds provide for everything from student projects and scholarships to equipment purchases and library acquisitions of benefit to our graduate students. The flexible resources provided by unrestricted gifts will enable the Department to support students, faculty and advanced research programs for a future that we can only imagine today.

Who has Given?

One example of giving has been through the annual George A. Adrouny Memorial Lectureship, held in the spring of each year. The Lectureship serves to honor the late Dr. George Adrouny, who was a professor with our Department from 1957 to 1981. After Dr. Adrouny passed away in 1999, his family established the Adrouny Lectureship in honor and memory of his contributions to science and education. Dr. Adrouny has left a permanent legacy of excellence in his years at Tulane, and a great number of students and researchers have benefitted by way of his lifetime of work. Since 2000 the Adrouny family's generosity has resulted in a successful lectureship that featured outstanding speakers at the forefront of biomedical research. Attendees have enjoyed listening to reports of major advances in biochemistry and molecular biology and interacting with the visiting speakers at receptions following the lectures. Also, in conjunction with the Lectureship, an award is presented every year to the first-year medical student who scores the highest combined grade in the two Medical Biochemistry courses.

In addition to establishing the Lectureship, the Adrouny family has recently initiated an endowed professorship in memory of Dr. George Adrouny. Professorship will help us recruit top biomedical scientists to the department. These financial contributions by the Adrouny Family will certainly enhance our academic mission at Tulane. We are deeply grateful for their generosity.
