Dr. Nancy Vander Velde received her medical degree in 1993 from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. She completed an Internal Medicine residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan in 2000. In 2002, she completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
From 2002-2008 she was on staff at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Alvin and Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. During that time, she participated as Faculty of the Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital Residency Program in Internal Medicine and was an Instructor in Medicine, Johns Hopkins University (November 2007 to July 2008). She was active in cancer clinical trials as well as resident and medical student teaching.
Dr. Vander Velde joined Tulane University School of Medicine, Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2008. She was promoted to Associate Professor January 2016. She is program director for the Tulane University School of Medicine Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship program.She is also section Chief of Hematology and Oncology at the Southeast Louisiana Veteran's Healthcare System.
Dr. Vander Velde is involved in the education of fellows, residents, and students. Her interests include solid tumors such as breast, GI, prostate, and lung cancers.
Dr. Vander Velde is currently an investigator/co-investigator in several lung and prostate cancer clinical trials. She is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
