Tulane Outpatient Burn Clinic
The Tulane Outpatient Burn Clinic is a comprehensive burn injury treatment clinic where board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive and Certified wound care nurses provide state of the art care for all 1st degree, all 2nd degree, and small 3rd degree burn injuries. We offer a full spectrum of burn treatment options, from the initial burn assessment to post-burn injury reconstructive surgery. Our goal is to return our patients to work and everyday activities as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Why a Burn Injury Specialist?
Burn related injuries represent a unique type of event that requires specialized care in order to prevent infection or further damage to the surrounding tissue. Traditional burn treatment or wound care that is provided in an urgent care setting or a physician’s office often requires painful daily dressing changes and frequent trips to the doctor’s office, all of which interfere with work or personal schedules. The Tulane Outpatient Burn Clinic uses state-of-the-art dressings and skin substitutes to treat burn injuries in a more clinically efficient manner; most burn injuries treated using these new materials heal within 7 – 10 days, without the need for additional dressing changes and with minimal pain or discomfort. All care is provided by Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons and Certified Wound Ostomy Nurses (CWON) that are specially trained in the care of burn related injuries.
A visit to the Tulane Outpatient Burn Clinic begins with a detailed examination by a board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon with additional training in the care of burn related injuries. We can provide comprehensive care for all burn injuries (excluding those that are severe enough that they require admission to a burn hospital). Included in our services are specialized dressings, burn wound debridement, application of skin laminates that protect the burn wound and promote healing, and same-day operative management of burn injuries. We also provide post-burn reconstructive surgery to correct scars and skin problems related to old burn injuries. Our goal is to return our patients to work and everyday activities as quickly and painlessly as possible.
