Dr. Theis is an Associate Professor in the Department and active in both clinical medicine and clerkship teaching. He joined the faculty in 1999 after working in private practice in the New Orleans area. Dr. Theis spends considerable time teaching medical students the joys of being a real-world family doc by precepting several 3rd -year clerkship students each year at the Family Health Center , discussing ethics with 1st -year students in the Foundations course and staffing a student-directed free clinic at Bridge House. Dr. Theis' teaching efforts have been recognized five times by the Owl Club and he was Tulane's 2003 faculty recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation's Humanism in Medicine Award.
Dr. Theis received a B.S. in mathematics from Centre College in Danville , Kentucky and his M.D. from The Ohio State University in Columbus , Ohio . He completed his Family Medicine residency training at Grant Medical Center in Columbus , Ohio . He lives Uptown with his wife, Patty, and their dog Claire, all of whom enjoy traveling to fun places and then returning to beautiful New Orleans.
