Stem Cells from Bone Marrow May Help Treat Acute Lung Injury

ScienceDaily (May 13, 2011) — New research, published in BioMed Central's open access journal Stem Cell Research & Therapy, investigates the therapeutic use of human stem cells from bone marrow against acute lung injury and identifies TNF-α-induced protein 6 as a major molecular component of stem cell action.

Congratulations to Svitlana Danchuk and Carolyn Marsden on their wins at Health Science Research Days

The winners from the Health Science Research Days have been determined. It is with great pleasure that we get to make the following announcements regarding members of our center family:

Svitlana Danchuk was the winner if the Regenerative Medicine research award for her poster entitled “HUMAN MULTIPOTENT STROMAL CELLS ATTENUATE LPS-INDUCED ACUTE LUNG INJURY IN MICE VIA SECRETION OF TNF-Α-INDUCED PROTEIN 6”. Svitlana is a Research Associate with Dr Debbie Sullivan. Her work has recently been accepted for publication in Stem Cell Research and Therapy, as well.

Carolyn Marsden a PhD student in Dr Brian Rowan's lab was awarded Best Graduate Student Research and Presentation Award for her poster entitled “PRIMARY BREAST CANCER CELLS WITH METASTATIC POTENTIAL ISOLATED FROM HUMAN INVASIVE DUCTAL CARCINOMA”.

Scientists Explore Blood Vessel Growth

Three new faculty members in the Tulane Department of Biomedical Engineering are leading the way in understanding how circulating cells are involved in the function and growth of microvascular networks. Each is studying blood vessels from a different angle, resulting in an interdisciplinary approach to the research.
