The Center was initially supported by funding from the state of Louisiana via the Louisiana Gene Therapy Research Consortium and the Louisiana Board of Regents, from the Tulane University Health Sciences Center, the HCA - Healthcare Company and several private foundations. The Center is presently supported by research funds from the federal government via National Institutes of Health grants, National Science Foundation and Department of Defense.
The faculty affiliated with the center have appointments in numerous Departments and Divisions in the Tulane School of Medicine, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Tulane University, as well as Xavier University in New Orleans and The Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Center is based in approximately 20,000 sq. ft. of modern laboratory space in the Tulane University Health Sciences Center’s J. Bennett Johnston Building, located at 1324 Tulane Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana and other Tulane owned buildings. Center member laboratories are distributed throughout the School of Medicine and on the Uptown campus of Tulane University. In addition, the Center has laboratory space and resources at the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Covington, Louisiana.
