As March is World Kidney Month, a World Kidney Health Screening Day is scheduled on Wednesday, March 15, from 9am till 3pm, in the lobby (Reily Pavilion) of Tulane University Hospital and Clinics. This event is open to the public, all Tulane employees, and students. Participants will be screened for blood pressure & the risk for developing kidney disease.
World Kidney Day (WKD) is a global health awareness campaign that aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health, and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. WKD began in 2006 and has been celebrated every year since then in more than 100 countries on 6 continents. Within both higher and lower income countries there are communities that are at greater risk than others because of their socioeconomic status, ethnic origin, and/or where they live. Taking steps to live a healthy lifestyle clearly helps to reduce risk, and early detection and treatment can slow or prevent the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), and reduce the increased incidence of associated cardiovascular disease. WKD is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). More information on WKD can be accessed at: http://http://www.worldkidneyday.org/
