BME Senior Wins FulbrightAubrey Kraft, a Biomedical Engineering Senior from Anchorage, AK, has just been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. The program will place her in a classroom in Malaysia to provide assistance to teachers of English to non-native English-speakers. English Teaching Assistants help teach English language while serving as a cultural ambassador for U.S. culture.

In her application, she explained her reason for choosing Malaysia: “In addition to the teaching assistantship, I hope to explore the multiple religions and cultures that have intertwined in Malaysia. The mixture present will allow me to experience several different languages and cultural ways of life, while learning how all of the cultures work together harmoniously. With such diversities in culture, there lies a great gastronomical potential. I would like to learn about the food preparation and flavor combinations and share my love of cooking and creating recipes with my students informally or by founding a club if there is interest — a cultural cooking exchange.”

When she returns to the U.S., Aubrey plans to apply to graduate school to study global and ecological health engineering focusing on the development of healthcare technologies appropriate for developing countries.
