Our Program Objectives

The objectives of Tulane’s chemical engineering undergraduate program are to provide our students with the engineering science education and problem-solving skills needed:

  1. To be rapidly and fully successful in industry, graduate school, or professional school.
  2. To successfully pursue their desired career path.
  3. To be contributing and fulfilled professionals in their chosen careers.

Enrollment and Graduates

70 undergraduate majors were enrolled in Fall 2016. Our students declare a major in the Freshman or Sophomore year. 30 students earned a BSE degree in the 2015–16 academic year.

Program Outcomes

  1. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
  2. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
  3. An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.
  4. An ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  5. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  6. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  7. An ability to communicate effectively.
  8. The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context.
  9. A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.
  10. A knowledge of contemporary issues.
  11. An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
  12. An ability to solve a problem of industrial relevance.
  13. A knowledge of current issues in industrial and academic research and development.
  14. An ability to consider the entire system in project solutions.
