Richard D. Gonzalez, Professor Emeritus in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Tulane University, visited the China University of Petroleum campuses at both the Beijing and Huadong during the month of May. He presented lectures on fuel cells and controlled drug release. The high point of his lectures involved the assembly of a model car which was powered by the conversion of solar energy into mechanical energy by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen and oxygen were then used to power the motor on a model car. The trip to China was coordinated through the auspices of Dr. Binghui Li, currently employed by the Chemical Division of the Shell Oil Company in Houston, Tx. and the China University of Petroleum in Beijing and Huadong.
