The Tulane Department of Psychology confers several awards of distinction to graduating seniors, and the recipients are determined by a vote of the full faculty. Our newest award, The Barbara E. Moely Award for Psychology in the Public Interest, requires a nomination packet that includes information directly from the graduate. If you are graduating this year and would like to be considered for this award, please read on...

The Barbara E. Moely Award for Psychology in the Public Interest is awarded to the graduate with exceptional public service to the community. The award is named for Professor Emerita Barbara Moely, who began service learning at Tulane and remained active with the Office of Service Learning and Center for Public Service after her retirement. Nominations for the award are accepted in March.

The nomination should include the following information, and be submitted to the Department of Psychology by March 18th:

  1. One page essay from the student describing distinguished service, community outreach and/or application of psychology in the field. Note: This service should extend beyond the minimum to meet the public service requirement
  2. A statement of support from a faculty member from Tulane Psychology. Note: The student should present the referee with his or her essay well in advance of the deadline, so that the faculty endorsement can confirm or expand upon the student's description of service.
  3. Unofficial college transcript (i.e., degree audit)
