Use the checklist below to plan for your first semester at Tulane this fall. Most items are strongly encouraged while some are required. Please reference this checklist often! ROLL WAVE!



___  Check your Tulane email regularly. The Navigator E-newsletters come out on the 1st and 15th of each month beginning May 15 full of great information and resources to guide you over the summer.

___  May 8: Deadline to complete your housing application by signing your Housing Agreement in the Housing Portal system. Beginning May 22 {NEW DATE} and through the end of June, you will be able search for and select a roommate. [Use your Gibson Online username and password].

___  Read this year’s Reading Project book, Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. You can purchase the book from the Barnes & Noble university bookstore during New Student Orientation.

___  Connect with your classmates on the Class of 2021 Facebook page.

___  Register for the Class of 2021 Mississippi Riverboat Dinner Cruise. This annual tradition for first-year students will be held on Friday evening, September 1. Register at Spaces are limited. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable!

___  Set up your OrgSync profile through Gibson Online to check out campus organizations and get involved.

___  Add an authorized user (parent or guardian) to your student account and grant access to eBills, recent account activity, and electronic payment options. Visit for more information. Make sure you check out the Accounts Receivable New Student Checklist!

___  Visit our First-Year Involvement Opportunities webpage to read more about the many programs for mentorship in your first year: Newcomb College Institute's Big/Little Sister and Town Mom Programs, the International Student Mentorship Program, and The O Ambassador Peer Mentoring Program. Sign up this summer!

___  Before New Student Orientation: Complete the Online Language Placement Form to register for foreign language classes during your advising appointment. Visit for more information. Note: some students will be prompted by email to take an additional Avant placement test after completing the placement form. Be sure to complete the Avant test if you are directed to do so.



___ Join us for a session of New Student Orientation should your schedule permit! 

___ Request any needed accommodations and submit documentation with the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility via

___ Check the Financial Aid website to review necessary steps to assure timely delivery of your aid (including merit scholarships). You'll also want to submit any outside scholarships received to Financial Aid.

___ June 29: Students who did not attend NSO can begin registering for classes today at 8 AM.  

___ June 30: Deadline to submit your roommate preferences through the Housing Portal system. [Use your Gibson Online login information]. 

___ June 30: Make changes to your class schedule from NSO beginning today at 8 AM. Consult with your academic advisor if you have specific questions about courses.



___ July 15: Deadline to submit your immunization forms and records to the Health Center via the Patient Portal. Visit for more information.

___ Check your Tulane email for health insurance requirements and details. The Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) enrollment/waiver process begins mid-July.

___ July 15: Check your Tulane email this week for your housing assignment from Housing and Residence Life. You will also receive information regarding your move-in time and move-in instructions.

___ July 15: Deadline to submit your info and class photo for the 2017 Tulane University New Student Book. Visit for additional information.  

___ July 15: Deadline to sign up for your meal plan. Visit to review the meal plan options and sign up!

___ July 20: Log into Gibson Online to view your tuition and fees bill beginning today.

___ July 24: Check your Tulane email for instructions on completing three required, online wellness courses. You have until August 24 to finish these online courses!



___ August 1: Deadline to submit your final high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

___ Review the Move-In Packet from Housing & Residence Life to obtain your move-in time, parking permit, and more! 

___ Check your mail at your permanent home address (and Tulane email) the first week of August for your campus mailbox number and shipping labels and instructions.

___ August 15: Download the Fall Welcome App for all Android and iOS devices in the App Store and Google Play. Programming runs from August 25 through September 10. Check out our featured events at

___  Ship any needed items to campus using the labels and instructions from Mail Services.

___ If you're applying for an on-campus job, review the list of required documentation to complete your I-9 verification and make sure you bring these important documents to campus to avoid any delays with job placement.

___  August 24: Deadline to complete the online wellness education courses (mental health, sexual violence and alcohol modules).

___ August 25: Move-In Day. Unpack, get settled, and join your classmates that evening for our kick-off to Fall Welcome!

___  August 31: Fall Tuition Bill Due



___  September 8: Deadline to waive or decline the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) before you are automatically enrolled. Visit for more information.


LAGNIAPPE (a little something extra):

___  Download Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note and 1 terabyte of storage space) for FREE for your laptop or PC. Students have access to all software and storage while enrolled at Tulane.

___  Consider completing the Authorization to Release Educational Records form to grant your parent or guardian access to your educational records. This form must be turned in IN PERSON to each respective office.

___  Order your textbooks through Gibson Online from the Barnes & Noble university bookstore. 

___  Review the Academic Honor Code so you're prepared for the start of fall classes.

___  Review the Tulane University Code of Student Conduct, and familiarize yourself with the Student Responsibilities within the Code.
